Running Icon Bill Rodgers Joins Medals4Mettle Board of Directors as Organization Celebrates 20 Years

Indianapolis, Indiana — Medals4Mettle is proud to announce the appointment of legendary runner and Olympian, Bill Rodgers, to its Board of Directors. As the organization celebrates its 20th anniversary, Rodgers’s unparalleled legacy in the running community and his passion for the organization’s mission will be an invaluable asset as Medals4Mettle looks to continue its global growth and impact.

A beloved figure in American running, William Henry Rodgers is a former marathon record holder and Olympian. He is best known for his unprecedented four victories in the Boston Marathon, including three consecutive wins from 1978 to 1980, and his four straight victories at the New York City Marathon from 1976 to 1979. A resident of Boxborough, Massachusetts, Rodgers remains an active participant in running events and was recently named a grand marshal for the 2025 Boston Marathon alongside his long-time friend and fellow Boston Marathon champion, Bob Hall.

Medals4Mettle has been a source of inspiration and hope for two decades, founded in 2005 after Dr. Steven Isenberg gave his marathon medal to a friend battling cancer. The organization has since grown from a single act of kindness into a global movement, awarding tens of thousands of medals worldwide. The addition of Bill Rodgers to the board marks a pivotal moment, as the organization aims to expand its reach, inspire more athletes to donate their medals, and bring courage and encouragement to even more recipients.
